Our Klamath Basin
Water Crisis
Upholding rural Americans' rights to grow food,
own property, and caretake our wildlife and natural resources.
Herald and News 3/15/06 Letter to the editor, Be careful with water Look around you: what do you see? Trees, fields, crops growing, livestock. This was done with the help of a water plan. But, be careful with this wonderful resource. You have only to look south, at the Los Angeles area and the Owens Valley to see what one man can do to the landscape. Enter William Mulholland, 1913, who said at the completion of the California Aqueduct, "There it is, take it." And so began the rape of the beautiful Owens Valley and the beginning of the cancer known as Los Angeles. To everyone in the Klamath Basin, I urge caution and restraint. Mulholland had offspring. There are enough resources here for everyone, and I'm sure a peaceful, logical, solution awaits. It is always better to talk and resolve, than to act and regret. Greg Beckman Sr. |
